Prefered way use your pre build packages. (http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/users/installing.html). 

archery

 pip install archery

pypi-stat:
----------
 
 pip install pypi-stat

Upgrading
*********

 pip install --upgrade pypi-stat


Package contents:
*****************

The package installs : 
 * 2 scripts in your usual path 
 * with --user it is in ~/.local/bin (unix)
 * default install will be located in /usr/local/bin (unix)
